Are My WhatsApp Contacts Notified If I Create A New Whatsapp Channel?

Meta recently introduced WhatsApp Channel in the latest updates of WhatsApp.

Originally, WhatsApp was a private platform for connecting with close friends and family, without the presence of celebrities, big brands, or verified accounts common on other social media platforms.

However, with this update, you can still maintain your private conversations while staying updated on your favorite brands, celebrities, and verified accounts.

Now, some whatsapp users wonder if persons from their whatsapp contact list will be notified by WhatsApp when they create a new channel.

In this article, we’ll explain more about WhatsApp channels and also address whether your contacts receive notifications when you create one.

What Is A WhatsApp Channel?

A WhatsApp Channel is like a megaphone for businesses and organizations. It lets them easily share news and updates with lots of people privately.

Unlike WhatsApp group chats, channels only send messages one way. This means followers can’t talk back or chat with each other.

Businesses use WhatsApp channels to tell customers about their products through promotions and news. People can also follow their favorite brands or teams this way.

Creating a WhatsApp channel is simple. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Launch WhatsApp on your phone and navigate to the Updates tab.
  2. Tap the plus (+) sign in the upper-right corner of the channel’s section and select New channel.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to get started.

Can You Join A WhatsApp Channel?

Yes, you can. To find new channels on WhatsApp, head to the Updates page. There, you’ll see a list of recommended channels, like those from local celebrities, news outlets, sports teams, and more.

You can also search for channels in WhatsApp’s search tab. This lets you follow channels from people or groups you’re interested in.

Also, if someone you know sends you a link to their channel, you can join it by just clicking on the link. This way, you can react to messages and updates they share on the channel.

Will My Contacts Get Notified If I Make A New WhatsApp Channel?

When you create a WhatsApp channel, it’s essentially like starting a new group or broadcast list.

WhatsApp doesn’t send out notifications to your contacts about your new channel. They won’t receive any automatic alerts or messages informing them of its creation.

The visibility of your channel depends on how you promote it. If you want your contacts to join, you’ll need to invite them directly by sending them a link.

Alternatively, you could share the channel link on your social media profiles, website, or other platforms to attract a wider audience.

Overall

Regarding the topic at hand, WhatsApp prioritizes user privacy, so it refrains from broadcasting your activities to your contacts unless you directly engage with them.

Therefore, when you establish a WhatsApp channel, your contacts won’t be notified unless you actively share the channel with them or post it on your WhatsApp status.
